condition of used shocks

condition of used shocks
I picked up a pair of used OME front shocks for a 3" lift off craigs list for $10
I can compress them by hand and then they expand back out slowly
no leaking or anything
the guy said they came used with a rear axle for his comanche
and he never used them due to lift height
is there any way to tell i they are junk or not?
