Default Comanche project or nah?

My youth pastors brother has an 88(?) Comanche Pioneer he would sell me as a project. It needs brakes tires a new slave cylinder and a tune up. He's asking $700 but im sure he would take $500. My friends and i all drive xjs and we want to buy it as a project and build it. What im asking, i guess, is if this a good idea and if its a good price? Ill try to attach some pics.

For $500 I'd buy it up quick.

Looks like it's a 2.5L though. :/

Crawl under it and look for rust in the rear frame rails.
