I hate to tell you but that is a "Hot Air Intake", zero cold air at all. A cold air setup is either a cowl or snorkel intake where nothing but outside air is drawn in.

Yup. Might make a cool noise at WOT and give slightly faster acceleration from a little more air entering but it'll do more.bad than good. I know if I did that, water would drench it just from driving in puddles. I love my cowl snorkle

"Hot air intake" or "different shaped filter" whatever you want to call it.
You are still using the factory convoluted intake duct, which continues to restrict flow to factory rates.

Guess you folks missed the part where he said...
Let him finish it up before you start raggin' on him.
OP,
Your CAI may not be perfect, but at least you're doing stuff that makes it all yours. Good for you!!

Metal tube next to the exhaust manifold a real plus and any box would not add "Cold Air" would it? Might keep the filter from getting soaking wet though.
I just hate seeing all the companies selling these and calling them Cold Air Intakes, even on flea Bay for $50.

Same thing with those stupid throttle body spacers. People are always gonna say, "oh yeah, big difference." It's laughable. So companies have made thousands on paper weights too.
Just goes to show that a "pet rock" idea can become a hit.

If there was money to be made and someone would buy it because you called it a "cold air intake," wouldn't you make it and call it one too?

I don't fault the manufacturers for selling snake oil, because that's just business, and caveat emptor. But I think my own personal integrity would prevent me from selling a product I knew didn't live up to the hype. It would certainly prevent me from making claims about the product that couldn't be verified or were simply untrue.
I also think it's perfectly okay for us to call BS when someone else does it. Part of caveat emptor is research on the part of the buyer, and a buyer needs information to make an informed decision.
