Looks good! I just never understood the advantage of a cai on an xj.

The intake runners are directly next to the exhaust header, cold air will in no way help the XJ as far as I can see.

Only reason to relocate air filter is to keep water from getting in.

Exactly lol, and the only thing your doing with the filter out in the open is inviting water to come play inside your engine. That's why I never understood why people put cais on an xj

Cowl snorkel/snorkel different story.

Under the hood is an oven on the XJ. Large engine with long exhaust manifold in a small compartment. CAI would need isolation, insulation, and ducting to outside air.

Filters in the engine bay are not cold air intakes

I dont see any Heat sheilding, looks more like a Hot air intake to me !

There are 2 CIA's made for XJ's
Cowl Snorkle, and a Safari Snorkle

Enjoy the Noise and Loss of power !

I'll stick with my K&N Drop in filter in the stock airbox

Looks pretty sweet. I have one on mine too...and I'm pretty sure that this should boost your mpg, (but we drive jeeps, so obviously no one cares about mpg anyway) but I would think that by removing the factory box you are allowing more air to enter through the intake. Plus air does not have to flow through the box which by that time would be hot because it is inside an engine bay that is well over 200 degrees. SO this intake would allow for a faster intake which would not give air enough time to get hot. It kind of makes sense that by eliminating the air box you automatically get cooler air.

Yeah, I haven't had time to fab a heat shield yet. I have noticed an increase in power and it seems to be using less gas than usual. I'll test the mpg's over the next couple of weeks

Actually hot air increases your MPG, not cold air. The only reason most cold air kits can advertise MPG boost is because they are less restrictive. In his case he won't see much since he still has the accordion hose going into the TB.

I just did the same thing to mine today! it looks alot better thats forsure!! but what i undersatnd from what i have read on here is that where you have installed that small filter that is going into your valve cover is your ccv, it actually needs to be the way the stock air box has it which is that air is being sucked from the valve cover and into the intake manifold where the crankcase emmissions and what not are basicly burned there for extending internal bearing life... ill post a picture tomorrow of the set up im running.

My mechanic told me to set it up that way. And I'm also considering putting a vent right below it. I don't go throw deep water often so that won't be a problem. However figuring out how to keep mud and other crap out will be. Any ideas?

Problem isn't necessarily fording water, it's when you go splashing through water (even shallow) and it splashes into your intake.
