thats huge. haha thats probably bigger than I'll ever go. I just want to be able to tackle the rubicon trail and a few other rocky spots in cali. I always want my xj to serve as a DD as well. I wanna see the build thread on that xj of yours when you get started though sounds like a beast

i think it's completely nuts.
but if you're so set on doing this, why not have a spring loaded bump stop, so it's there so you know when to shift?? but you can apply more pressure against the spring to allow you to disengage further for stop/start procedures.
and both my tj's have the clutch safety start fuse pulled. it's an option for jeeps.

There's actually a mechanical 'sweet spot' when you're shifting...as soon as you're letting off gas and beginning to depress the clutch, for a very small amount of time there is no load on the gears in the transmission...this is why you can 'pull' it out of gear when coasting, there just has to be no load on either direction on your gears. While this is happening you should already be part way through your clutch stroke, and be pulling it in to the next gear...basically there is a sequence of events that has to happen the SAME WAY each time you shift. Having a higher leverage, or 'fast acting' setup only moves the clutch faster. Not your transmission...There are limitations in the ax15, its not a racing transmission. It's strong for its size, but its not a Rock Crusher.
In the end its how well you can do it. When I want to punch it, I'm not even letting the clutch hit the floor, just enough to grab a gear...I've driven other peoples cars faster down the strip simply because I know how to shift!

Understood
I simply ment you could engage the clutch faster - you as the driver are what determines how fast you move into the next gear
^ Are you calling the 'machanical sweet spot ' when you can shift with out the clutch ?
^^ the only reason I did the ax15 swap is because I prefer driving 5 speeds over autos
