Default clunking

Help please it's about 7 degrees out and dreading to look underneath. When I'm at speed and go to accelerate I hear and feel a clunk from the front end when letting go of the pedal. Any ideas .... possible mount ???? Thanks

James

What are you working with? Tons of variables to this. Also you would probably get way more responses if you posted it in the "OEM" tech or "modified tech" section depending on whether or not it is stock. Not as many people look at this section and hardly any of the gurus.

My jeep makes a bit more noise when its cold because the grease in the slipjoints on my driveshafts freezes and the dshafts don't extend/collapse as well as they should.

There are a bunch of things your clunk could be and either way, you'll probably have to get under it to diagnose/fix it. First time this has ever happened?

In any case, welcome to forum and good luck getting it fixed!

I had a similar noise that ended up being loose lower control arm bolts. Is the jeep totally stock or is it lifted/modified?

Thanks for the responses I'll make sure to post in the other forum. It is completely stock. Just a jeep grand cherokee limited. I tried driving around yesterday and the sound and jolt feeling seem to not be there anymore I'm going to have to get under it and check it out the next couple days . Thanks guys !

Could be anything. You need to be more descriptive.

I once had a clunk and it was a track bar, then I fixed that. Then I had another clunk, it was a loose shock. Another clunk a few months later turned out to be a bad transmission mount. Again, later down the line, I developed... yes... another clunk. This time it was a control arm bushing that was bad.

Have someone wiggle the wheel while you're under there to eliminate possibility of any steering components being bad. Check your shocks to make sure they're tight. If you have a 4x4, check the front drive shaft. Etc.

It could be a lot of things. I have a clunk which I think is coming from the slip joint. Here is a link to a write up I found. As soon as the temp here gets above freezing, I will be doing this.

I get a clunk when taking my foot off the gas at speed and also a clunk when starting from a stop. Hope this helps!

This fix is for 97 and up. Don't know what OP's year is.
