I take my 98XJ around the corner to the quarter wash.

It's only 2 blocks away, so the engine doesn't get very hot. I just prop the hood open on it's lowest angle & use the pressure wand while I'm washing the rest of the Jeep.

I try not to focus the spray on the engine too much so as not to crack any castings like the exhaust manifold. Hot castings don't like to be cooled rapidly.

Of course if time wasn't an issue, you could let the engine cool for an hour first.

Iv got an attachment for my hose that make the water pressure pretty high, I just can't see how spraying water on an engine can be good for the wiring

just dont spray directly on anything electronic and youll be fine wiring and connectors are supposed to be weather proof. i got a little water in the distributor once while power washing. it had a little trouble starting for a sec but no other problems

Power washing under the hood is a bad idea. The pressure from a power washer will break the weather seals on electronic connections and can cause shorts and/or corrosion over time. The best way to clean an engine bay is spray it down with degreaser and just rinse it off without pressure behind the hose. With mud, you might have to actually do some work and scrub it off by hand. A loofa on a stick works well.

If you're absolutely set on hitting it with a power washer, don't spray the alternator, fuse box, distributor, and other areas of important electronics.

I detail for a dealership and there is this stuff called dynamite. Its like an industrial type degreaser, Stuff seriously does the job. Im not sure if you can get it in small bottles but it does come in big jugs.
