Default Cleaning your engine

So, whats the best way to go about it? My valve cover gasket popped a leak this winter and Im replacing it this weekend. Im the guy who keeps his motor SUPER clean, so Ive never had to degrease a motor before. Any tips, tricks, etc? I know about Gunk, Simple Green, etc., but what is the best/easiest way to get built up oil off my motor? I want her looking new again, like she has for the last 12 years (stupid valve cover gasket)

Best bet for cheap is to go to a coin op car wash and spend a couple bucks in quarters and use the various tire cleaner and soap then pressure wash it. Just be careful of the alt. dist. and starter.

Any place oil leaks out will surely let highly pressureized water in. Just something to think about.

Yes, replace the gasket before doing any pressure washing under the hood. That will work well. Get a couple cans of degreaser and spray it on heavy. Let it soak in for 10 or 15 minutes, then blast it with the hose. Most of it should come right off. If you're really picky use a toothbrush and degreaser, soap, and water to get the really tight areas and sponge to scrub down everything else.
