Default Chrome Hooks installed Front and Rear-Pics

Spent the weekend installing Chrome Recovery Hooks front and rear. Came out pretty nice. The fronts went on the OEM hook brackets that are welded to the bumper brackets. The rears mounted to the same nut strips as used for mounting a hitch. Both ends needed removal of the bumpers. and a bit of modification to the nut strips. Had to add an additional hole and weld on another nut. But each strip is attached to the jeep with four half inch bolts. Two of them going through the hooks. Its all tucked in pretty tight at the rear. The fronts are way cool visible under the front bumper.

Nope. Never used them on my other Jeeps. I just use a double loop hook on trick. And never chains. Besides, I don't like the looks of the clips.

I stopped using hooks long ago too dangerous and wish my WJ Overland didn't have them on it. I use D-Rings and straps for about everything or a snap-rope. I think the last thing I used a chain for was to drag was a dead cow. But do keep 100-150' of chain around for using boomer's with on a trailer.

Yes, we only used D rings and shackles on our army vehicles back in the day. But now I am old enough to enjoy a bit of bling on my jeep. I am not so tactical any more. I bought my first XJ new....in 1986. A Laredo. Well after college. (You figure out how old I am). Then another new one in 1990. Put 350,000 miles on them altogether. My current one is a 96 that I bought last year. Right now I am more into enjoying a bit of dress up on the XJ, yet with some real capability, too. Doing recovery is more of a last resort to be avoided, rather than a routine avocation. I go places in the XJ that my Dakota 4x4 won't go, but don't intentionally risk needing recovering. Who knows, I might be able to help someone out someday.

All said, I just like the look of the chrome hooks.

Happy Trails every one!
