Totally different builds for me and I've been considering the same thing.
I've chopped a 2 door and will be doing my 4 door this spring. Only reason I'm chopping it is for a removable roof with the rear open and I want to keep my rear seat. It's almost entirely cosmetic for me and I think the people that do chops turn the rear into a bed are retarded, especially when they seal off the rear and turn it into a sealed cab. At best you get 4 feet or so out of a 2 door. What the hell do you need a 4 foot bed for?
I've been thinking about getting rid of the XJ for an MJ but only because I want to shorten the wheel base and run a flat bed. It's a lot easier to run bigger tires without the body work on an MJ if you get rid of a bed than it is on an XJ. Granted a 2 door is easier than a 4 door since you don't have to contend with the rear door but still.
