Right...
The U.S. spec 325i e30 had a computer-limited top speed of 131mph. The Euro spec 325i e30 had a top speed of 140mph.
Maybe if you had a 30 mph tailwind you'd see 155. More likely, if you really saw that speed, your speedometer is off.
169hp doth not 155mph makith.
Speaking of e30's, I had a great BMW e30 Turbodiesel Kombi when I lived in Germany, the 324TD. It would cruise at just a tick under 200km/h (125mph), and it would get a solid 34mpg (but not at the same time).
I've had my present US spec '98 Jeep Cherokee up to right around 115mph - not sure if a computer limiter prevented more speed, or if the (lack of) aerodynamics prevented more speed.

I hit 100 once...never again. It actually felt fine, and I don't doubt that 110+ is possible, but if anything went wrong at that speed (tire blowout, deer in the road, etc) it would be ugly to say the least.
I generally consider 80 mph the safe limit. My jeep rides very smooth, even at high speeds, but a box on wheels isn't exactly designed for high-speed evasive maneuvers.

I've hit the governor once in the Cherokee when on 31s, it has been over 100 a few times on 31s, 33s, and 35s. when the Comanche was on 30s with a factory speedo gear I wrapped it past 85 and it was still pulling in 4th gear at half-3/4 throttle. It has a little performance stuff done to it, and its on 2wd so less stuff spinning taking power. I am curious how fast it can go, but I know I shouldn't find out.

Never mind (wrote something someone else already pointed out). Isn't there a delete option? If so I can't find it.

I take the Interstate to work. I have AT tires and a 3" lift. I can easily and smoothly hit 90 (happens sometimes) with no negative swaying :P. Tires are wider than stock though 100% why I can do this...
At 120 mph, youre traveling one mile every 30 seconds... if you crash for say conservatively 15 seconds and account for a lil friction.. i bet youd leave a trail 1/3 a mile! Haha

I was able to hit the stopper under the 5mph mark while racing in my stock xj sport, against my football coach in his lifted f-150 to an event. This was with no wind and a slightly downhill slope and it was defs not safe... but those $5 felt good in my pocket.
EDIT- rhis was before the roof rack, foglights, rear bumper tire carrier, skid plates, etc. i doubt i could do it now
