I guess I always thought "XJ" was exclusive to the style with row bars and often no doors, lol. Most of the videos I see regarding doing work on them never show my jeep only that one. However, since I posted this, my jeep pops up under XJ now, internet spies making sure I get it right I suppose, hahaha.
This is my second Cherokee (first was 4 dr) but my favorite by far, lol. I have little mechanical know how but I can trouble shoot like a mother, lol - maybe that better explains my not knowing it falls in the XJ class lol.

What you were describing is just what some people have done to their XJ's.
I remember when I first saw one with no doors, I think in Phoenix, AZ, I thought somebody was parting one out in the street outside their house. (it was a long time ago, probably not long after I got my first one.)
For me, mechanical knowledge come as second nature - but I find trouble shooting much more of a challenge (& diagnostics might as well be a black art - or perhaps black magic
)

I got this one from a guy who bought it from a fire department and hardly used it so it was very well maintained. I keep up with my Cherry (that's her name hahaha) so she runs great but I wish I could afford to lift and revamp the engine and makeover. I've been offered like $4000 by people at garages upon first sight because everything is actually in great condition, look wise and running, but she could use some freshening up... what female wouldn't appreciate a makeover of some kind haha.

When I say "96 2DR 4WD 4.0L 6C Jeep Cherokee", please don't say " Did you mean to say Grand Cherokee, MISS?"

Almost as soon as I got my 1st XJ I wanted a "real" Jeep in particular a '47 CJ; still do, but to compliment the 2 XJ's that have come along later.
Those fire dept. XJ's are a good deal, low mileage but well maintained, although usually "poverty spec." with lots of holes in strange places (police ones are probably worse) & not been driven with a great deal of mechanical sympathy.
No reason not to enjoy what you've got, look after it & you can always have a rolling programe of upgrades/improvements/mods by looking at the available alternatives whenever you need to replace anything.
