Cherokee Seats - Do they suck?
Idk I think the rears are okay...I like the fact that the backrest is low enough that I can rest my arm right on top of it and sit almost diagonally with my feet towards the center console. feels like a lounge chair

I suppose if you have enough room to do that it's alright LOL Last time I sat in the back of my XJ we had 2/3 of the bench taken up with camping equipment

Okay...I've been watching this thread for a while...I'll be the one to say it. Cherokee seats suck. Not for the comfort, they're actually pretty comfy for the most part, but long drives, any seat gets old...the thing that makes them crappy is the cheap-*** metal they used to construct them, the frame breaks pretty easily. I have repaired both my front seats by welding them, and reinforcing them with flat stock and gussets. After the fix, they're pretty good. However, someday I would like to get some more comfy front seats in there. Not sure what I want yet.

I've driven mine across the country and that is definitely true. They got old, but were comfortable enough. If I ride in a Tacoma, my legs lose feeling after about 30 minutes, but I don't have that problem with the Cherokee seats. No issues with broken welds (yet). The back seat however, is another issue. It's funny that when the XJ came out in 1984, one of it's selling features was having 4 doors, but the Bronco II gave you better back seats once you got back there (grew up with one with the funky pop-up passenger seat). Unfortunately, the rear bench was never upgraded over the life of the XJ. The XJ has a lot going for it, but if a nice back seat is important, there's better options.

Did you get those out of an older XJ?
No he is saying he has the rare tilt/rocking seat base.

I think they suck hands down not comfy and no support in the mid back area.
I swapped over to some 99 ZJ seats and they are much better for me but still I want more.
If only I could find some Acura RSX seats at the yard.

Think it was an option in the 80s but his is a 94 that's why I ask if he got them from an older XJ. They didn't rock freely they had a latch that held them in the position you put them. I don't know why they were called "rocking" maybe the latch broke on enough of them and they were dubbed "rocking" seats.
No you didn't haha. I know you know there was no 99 Zj but I had to say it!
