Cherokee, overheat or not?
I've had a 2001 for 3 years, almost 60,000 miles, the infamous 0331 head of death, & nothing. It's down right boring compared to some of the stories I have read. I guess the exception comes for the vehicle being maintained by myself as well as the previous owners. Apparently far too many people simply fill it up with gas & have the oil changed if they can remember it.

Well, lets see.
My first '89 ran hot and overheated occasionally, but was missing the e-fan. 96 zj runs hot but only on a hot day on slow trails, ZJ's don't have e-fans lol. My '99 never overheats (except when my radiator got caked with mud). And my most recent '89 runs hot on trails but has not overheated yet (surprisingly, no e-fan).
In my experience most overheating issues are due to a poorly maintained cooling system.

My 99 sprung a leak around the pump and started getting warm at idle when it got low.
Overhauled all the worn components, no leaks, no problems.
Same with my 91, except the pump stopped working.

On my 94, the thermostat fan clutch was bad and it overheated until I replaced that. The e-fan, that turns on with the A/C, works fine.
One thing to look to for overheating is the water pump. The impeller blades can deteriorate over time and you won't move the coolant. Of course, there could be a bad/stuck thermostat, warped head or bad head gasket.

I've got a 99 that has never once went over 210. On the other hand,my g/f's 96 would if the fan didn't do its job though. Gotta get that radiator flushed and check everything else.

Mine usually stays at a steady 175, it hits and tops out at 210 after a couple hours of driving if I'm going for long drives over three hours
