Hi,
Been a while since I've been here. Life gets in the way. LOL
The bad news is, my Jeep got totaled last Thursday. To be honest, I'm lucky to be alive. More to the point I'm sure that the Jeep I was in had something to do with that!
Anyway, I've been looking for a replacement. I've been VERY happy with my XJ, but I'm getting a bit long in the tooth (older) and it's just not too comfortable on long trips.
To make a short story long. I've been looking at the Grand Cherokee. In my searching for something I can afford. I've come across models with Quadra-Drive. From what I understand it was available on 1999 - 2004. What I've been reading is that it does not work as advertised.
Two questions.
1) Is this something I should stay away from?
2) What other mechanical problems should I be aware of in the WJ vs. the XJ?
Thank You,
I was doing 60MPH when someone lost control, came across 3 lanes and T-Boned me. What a ride.

Wow...glad you were ok, that looks like a pretty bad accident! If I were in your position, i'd get a WJ. They are significantly more confortable. My XJ isn't a DD, I have a TL for milage, and comfort.
TBH, I would stay away from the QuadraDrive. I had a 00 WJ w/ QD and I didn't like it. Too many issues with the system. I'd get the Selec-Trac.
If you get one with climate control (a limited, or overland) make sure the blend door issue has been fixed.
The only other advice I can give is: get the V8. The I6 in the Grand Cherokee is pretty sluggish IMHO.

Id have to agree with SteelBlue99 Get the v8 wj (or even a nice zj could do) instead of an xj, the blend door issue plagues most all of the wj's with the cc and is a costly fix.
Im glad that you are alive, two feet over, just a tad bit slower on your part, could have been devastating.

i used to have a zj and they are more comfy with all the power stuff little more room inside but mine had a crapy tranny and from what ive read most of them do it also had the crapy full time 4wd where you couldnt put it in 2wd if you wanted to. but i like my xj alot better even though it has power nothing not even cruise control. but the wife liked the zj better.

Thank you all for the responses. I know I have much MUCH more research to do, but so far your thoughts and suggestions all pretty much back up everything I've read so far.
It's nice to know I'm on the right track.
Thanks,
MPH
