Question Cherokee dependability ?

Hello everyone. I know nothing about cherokee's and would like a little info on them. I am looking at a few cherokee's 1999-2001 models. Just wondering how dependable these jeeps are and what kind of problems if any they may be known for. Just looking for something to drive back and forth to work and around the deer lease. Thanks

the cherokee has a very dependable drivetrain. the 4.0 is famous for being bulletproof (quarter million miles is not rare), along with both the manual and auto trannys are very reliable. i've had to fix/replace a bunch of stuff of my jeep over the years but i think that is just from beating on it. i'm sure somebody on here can tell you better than i can what the common problems that cherokee's have. with the jeep i have now i've had for about a year and a half so far i've only had to replace a few different things on the engine. a water pump, an alternator, TPS, thats about it, and one morning i woke up and my slave cylinder went in my AX-15 tranny. it is mounted externally and an easy fix....sorry for the essay but in conclusion buy a cherokee! they're awesome and mine has never left me stranded anywhere

Most dependable rig i've ever owned!!!

This one, 200K and has and has a few issues from neglect, but easily corrected.

My last XJ, 325K before it got t-boned. It ran like a top.

Neither has EVER let me Down!!!

Finding one with under 100K will be a trying search, but they are out there. You have to keep in mind that the last one was made 9 years ago and the average American vehicle sees 15K to 18K miles each year. Good luck in your search and if you have any questions about one your looking at just give us a shout.

they are prone to exhaust manifold cracks, although can be fixed.

My wifes 01 is stock and gets around 19-21 depending on the terrain. In TN with the hills I would say around 19. When we drove it to FL where is was flat it averaged around 22-23. My 91 has 33s on it and I average around 14-16 running the stock 3.55 gears.
