Default Cheapest method for a paint job?

I have a black 96 and most places the clear is gone, esecially the hood and roof. I wheel it, it gets scrathed and I don't care about that. I would liek to at least hav a consistant look all over though. I thought about a quick sand and maybe hit it with some single stage black thats not flat but not like a new car gloss either. Any thoughts? thanks would like to do for $50-75 range... Heres a couple shots of her current coat:

Get insurance. Crash car.

Just kidding, I could use the same input. My roof looks like a peeling sunburn.

Sand, and rattle can. If you're not really worried about the looks, rattle can is the easiest to do. and then redo if you scratch it up again.

a guy in our local club actually used DTM (Direct to metal) paint with a roller and brush, then buffed it a week later and it looks really good.

I rattle canned mine for less than 50$.

Don't clear coat it, that way if you do scratch its a 60 second fix.

If you do rattle cans...post pics of the result. I'm thinking about doing the same.

I rollered mine. I don't suggest it. Rattle canning was easier.

Check out the tractor paint at Tractor Supply. A guy I work with used black on a caviler and yellow on a f150. Both came out looking good. the paint is heavier duty due to being for farm equipment. It's also cheap!

If you trail this rig offten, I would just leave it alone. Nothing cheaper than that. Rattle canning or rolling could make your rig look worse than it does (not that your XJ look really bad or anything). Trail rash looks good to me for some reason. I have more respect for a scratched up wheeled rig than I do for some polished mall crawler.
