I've painted a couple beater work trucks with polyurethane equipment paint and they turned out fine. A little cleaning, sanding and a quick spray job made them look good.

I have a black 96 and most places the clear is gone, esecially the hood and roof. I wheel it, it gets scrathed and I don't care about that. I would liek to at least hav a consistant look all over though. I thought about a quick sand and maybe hit it with some single stage black thats not flat but not like a new car gloss either. Any thoughts? thanks would like to do for $50-75 range... Heres a couple shots of her current coat:

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I do appreciate a good trail rig as well and do not mind Trail pinstripes at all, just would like the rig to look a little more consistent. I rattled can my '64 Ford Flat black, so I am no stranger to that, after tape and 20-30 cans it was like $90 ! haha think I will go this route with the XJ though also. I will look to gain scratches soon after, just get a solid coat first..

I only used about 4 or 5 cans of olive green and and 2 cans of gloss black. I had most of the green from a past project so I only spent about $20. I did alot of prep work though.
