That is what I've figured but I've never had a vehicle with leaf springs so my experience is limited.

Cheap and lift usually tends to be a waste of money in the long run.

Frankly I don't think any of the 3" kits out there are really worth the money for what you get. Piece together a kit and you'll be happier.

Personally:
Front: 3" coils, not picky about the brand. Amazon actually has some really good deals on XJ coils. Control arms are optional, if you're not doing a ton of wheeling you can wait til you go higher or just upgrade to adjustable arms or drop brackets later if you find you need them. You can redrill your trackbar or get an adjustable one, most the kits don't come with them anyway.

rear: 2" OME leafs and Rough Country shackle relocation kit.

Shocks: Really up to you, but they're big in ride quality. Bilsteins will give you the best ride but I've ridden on Ranchos for years and can't complain, but I'm also not really picky about ride quality.

You'll spend ~$600 on what I listed (minus the control arms) assuming you go with Rancho RS5000 series. It's a little high but it sets you up well to easily go up to 4-5", especially in the rear because you can jump to extended shackles and you'll already have the relocation box which will keep you from having to deal with shackle angle. Plus the OME leafs give you really good ride quality.

If you run a swaybar there are tons of write ups on cheap homebrew discos for them.

RC's actually fit really well in the box but add a lot of lift.

I vote HD lift or no lift. And I'm installing my FST's tomorrow fwiw.

I was in the exact same position as you. All my stock suspension was shot and it rode like crap. I upgraded to a 3" RC series II lift with full leaf packs. It rides so much smoother than my shot suspension, so I'm not complaining. I don't have any vibes with this suspension, and I don't have anything bad to say about it. I'm very satisfied with what I got. I ordered mine from Morris 4x4 online. A lot of people don't like RC, but me and 3 of my friends with XJ's run their lift and we all love it.

I wouldn't say usually always. But ok I was just warning him. Ill agree that all jeeps are different though and the older ones are less susceptible to vibes.

Zone makes a pretty decent 3" lift with full packs, for a price comparable to RC. No control arms or sway bar drop brackets though.

I have roughly 900 into my 3.5" lift that I pieced together using RE leafs/Coils , Teraflex Adjustable Upper and Lowers , extended steel brake lines front And rear, IRO tierod , Re adj trackbar and Bilstein 5100 shocks it rides like a Caddy Onroad and performs great offroad

Best way to go in the long run ^ or else you're stuck upgrading crappy parts and spending more money.

In general yeah, but their shackle boxes are fair priced and a good product and a smart way to gain an inch for pretty cheap while addressing shackle angle.
