The center console lid on my 96 Cherokee S doesn't seem to fit correctly, and after looking at it, I'm not sure it's even the correct lid. If I take it apart, I find:

If you look at the underside of it where the latch is that keeps it close, what appears to be the latch is flush with the underside of the lid, so when you try to close and latch it, it doesn't catch on the lower part where the latch should catch. It also appears to be longer than needed to fit properly and the small rubber "bumpers" don't actually bump anything when it's closed.
