Sounds like the cobra 19 is a good buy?

 

Yes its a good buy for trail and local use in combination with the 102" stainless whip on top of a 6" spring.

 

For trail use you won't need more than a couple miles and can use a smaller 4' antenna.. a 102" whip is far from trail friendly.

 

Yes and no. its very flexible even without a spring but you'd want to use a spring to get optimum performance and proper swr tuning. If you're out in wooded trails then I could see it getting hung up a lot and possibly ripping it off the jeep.

 

And whipping around and hitting people/vehicles. I hate the sound of mine smacking the trees.

 

I def wouldn't want to get hit in the face especially while its transmitting!!

 

You guys have been a great help, I'm going to go with the cobra 19. Where's the best place to mount the antenna? In guessing the highest place possible?

It's the one with the pa too. As far as speaker too what are my options?

 

You can mount the antenna where I have mine. There is a member that makes the antenna mount ( sorry I forgot the name ) and it works great. See how the internal speaker sounds before buying an external, you might not even need it.

I have a little external speaker with a long cord that I ran up and mounted where the dome light is. I have not finished it up yet though. It works fairly well as it is mounted just above my head. My CB is mounted down low around my hip so the audio output is not great especially with windows down (no A/C). You can get the external speakers at Radio Shack, small one for about $6 or larger one for about $9. Can probably get them at a local truck stop too. Any place that has CB stuff will probably have the speakers also.

Antenna: Optimum location is middle of the roof, but not always practical. The majority of us have the antenna mounted above the tail light on either side. It is best to have as much of the antenna as possible above the roof line to get decent forward coverage and to minimize the feed back from the antenna running up next to the Jeep body. I have also seen people mount the antenna to their roof rack if so equipped. However you would need to make sure the antenna mount and/or the roof rack is grounded to the body.

 

I'm not sure how to mount it yet, my keep is a wj btw, also for the + and - wires can't I just connect them to my amp for my subs?

I might have something you can use to run off of a spare slot in your interior fuse panel. Let me know if you're interested.

 

What is it? How should I wire it up?

 

Its a little brass connector that slips over the blade of the fuse. I have some for mini blade and larger blade fuses. Then run your ground to the body right next to the fuse panel or use the fuse panel mounting bolt for ground which is what I did.
