Cb Help?
Okay, I have a Midland 1001Z CB Radio. It's worked flawless for about 5 months, and all of the sudden, it took a dump.
I can receive signal, but not transmit. When I key my mic, the LED indicator lights don't even come on. Tried calling Midland, but they're closed at 4:30, so I'm coming to you guys.
I have it hooked up to a metal whip that came with my Jeep, it was an old Gov't XJ, so that whip has been plugged into it for the time I've had the CB, and all the sudden, it stopped transmitting.
Any ideas on this? If nothing else, I'm just gonna buy my brothers CObra and Firestiks, and hook those up on the passenger rear quarter, or angle hood mounts, can't decide lol.
ANd I don't have an SWR meter, nor do I care for one, to much time and money, so that is out.
Thanks for any help!

Bad component in the board, or too long with too high an SWR, Mics dont usually go bad. Your swr is VERY important, if it is high it WILL kill your finals and you will be able to receive but not transmit (sounds like what happened to you). I have an SWR of 2.0 with this setup, but thats not high enough to kill the radio.
I thought midland radios were good, but I guess not. I have one that cuts out on RX every once in a while, wont even recieve the weather channels, my friend had an old one that lost channels 10-40, and now Im hearing of yours...
I have a firestik ss-204 mount, it works good behind the brake light box.

The mount is a "door jamb" mount, but it works good in the back of the jeep. I took the 3 bolts holding the taillight out, and put my mount on. Then I just put the tail light back. If youre going to a truck stop, see if they will tune your new radio. Either way, it needs to be done or you will be killing another radio.

I picked up a SWR meter from eBay for like ten bucks. Good to have if you ever get have to get a new antenna for some reason. You wont have to find someone to do it for you and the Firestick antenna is very easy to tune.

Okay, there's a CB shop in the town next to me, I'[ll see how much they want to tune it. And what do you think about running 2 antennas? one above each brakelight?

I dont know how much they charge to tune an antenna but you might be better off buying the meter and doing it yourself.Once you have the SWR meter you dont have to worry about finding someone to do it for you. It's pretty easy and there are a lot of how to videos on youtube.

Problem Fix'd!!!
Of all damn things, it was the mic that died. Stole my brothers mic, plugged it in, and now the transmitting lights light up just fine. Plugged in the old one, and they didn't even come on. So now I just have to get a whip, and get it tuned.
Thanks for your help guys!
And don't ever rule out a dead mic!!
