Default Can i use blue gasket maker on differential?

Going to change the gear oil and I was wondering if I can use the blue gasket maker they sell at pepboys? I noticed that a lot of people either use the black gasket maker or the red one. Does it make a big difference if I use the blue one in the differential cover? Or should I play it safe and go buy a red gasket maker?? I already bought the blue one last night.

Ultra Grey, that **** is so awesome I put it on my sammiches.

Seriously, good stuff. Clean surfaces thoroughly, wipe down with brake cleaner. Thin bead of UG, torque cover down with even crisscross pattern, wait at least 30min, fill her up. Good to go.

To revive a somewhat old thread - how about "The Right Stuff" gasket maker? And how much gear oil is needed to fill the Chrysler 8.25 rear?

Probably just fine.

The gray stuff works great as does Ultra-Black.

blue stinks.

4.3 pints for a 8.25 diff (2 pints in a quart). If you off road much use 85-140

RTV is made for sealing different types of parts- black is compatible with oil/ gas

I've used "right stuff" to do diffs. It works fine. Nice if you don't feel like waiting forever for it to cure.

OK, so it looks like I'll need 3 quarts. I don't pull a trailer or go off road, but if the 85W-140 is overall better for the differential that's what I'd be inclined to use. I've also seen some 75W-140 in synthetic. (I did some shopping around and most brands of the synthetic stuff seem to go for about $10-$12/quart. A little steep but cheaper than differential problems. )

Probably should change the front differential oil as well. Though the main reason for doing the rear is that taking the axle shafts out is part of the disc brake conversion and you need to get inside the pumpkin to do that. It's not happening until things cool off though. (Was hoping to be working on it by now but 95+ degrees and humid is not a good time be outside wrenching, or doing much of anything.)

I have an unused can of it that I purchased a while back figuring I'd find some use for it. Looks like it's time has come!

I use it anywhere I can when RTV is needed, mostly because I have no patience. It's great for sealing Tcases when you tear em apart for SYE's too.
