Buying a 98 XJ
Hey guys, so my mom is thinking about buying me a 98 Jeep XJ. It has 171k on it for 3,500. No accidents, and completely stock. Is this a good deal? no problem except the catalytic converter, also includes new tires. Is 171 too much?

No not bad for a 4.0 engine and AW4 transmission not uncommon for them to run well over 250,000 and no problems, mine has. With that mileage there will be some items that will need to be replaced I'm sure just depends how well the PO took care of it.
The price might be a little on the high side depending on condition and model. A few photos might help us with a price and your location makes a difference on price also.
Hope to have you as a new XJ owner soon GL and let us know what happens.

The dealer can not sell it to you if there is a problem with the catalytic converter. 3500 is not bad for a dealer's price, but that may also mean there are some issues that is keeping the price low. Look at it and take pictures, then post them here so we can pick it apart. Pics of the interior, under the hood, under the Jeep, and all of the sides.

I just noticed that the back has some rust to it. The interrior has been detailed since the ad. Those are all picture from the ad. I'm not sure about the catalytic converter, i know it does make a raddle sound from the back. I think he was going to replace it since then. Once i go to look at it on Saturday yet again i'll post some more pictures.

That looks like a 4 door version of my 97, which has over 298k.
The price sounds reasonable, as long as maintenance has been done. (Like others have mentioned.)
Will the dealership include a warranty?

Look at the bottom of the oil fill cap on the valve cover to see if its sludgey.. Pop the hood with it started.. Some knocks or whatever u won't hear until the hood is popped.

Actually ended up buying the car! I'm loving it so far. The interior is immaculate. No leakes, very very minimal rust. The car is great. I'll be posting some pictures quite soon. It drives perfect. The 4 owners drove under 10k a year. 30 service records no accidents. The only thing that's wrong is the blinker doesn't turn off when I turn. But I just orderd the part for 30 dollars on ebay. I trusted the dealer because he's been in business for 20 years and gets 5 star reviews on google. we also made friends with him over the weeks. He's an honest to true seller. I'm loving the car. Thanks for the advice!
