Don't know the story behind them, but I wanted to share anyway. All are right hand drive, rust free, excellent condition, some with minor modifications like fog lamps or aftermarket rims, all have Japanese text on factory stickers and such. No idea what is going on but I plan on calling the company that owns the lot they're sitting in. Rust free XJ body in Michigan? Count me in... Just hope they're for sale.

Yeah, but that doesn't explain the Japanese, and if they were postal Jeeps here in MI they definitely wouldn't be rust free.

from wikipedia: The Cherokee was also made in right hand drive format initially for the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Postal_Service, the side effect of this was it allowed Jeep in later years to enter right hand drive markets — the Cherokee went on sale in both the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ireland in 1993. It was also sold in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan, and due to that country's strict shaken laws, many used Japanese-market Cherokees have found their way back to the United States for use by rural mail carriers.[

Postals don't have side repeaters. Overseas models do. Especially the Japenese notes.

You lucky @@@@!! Rust free right hand drives? You won't find many of those in the UK or Ireland! Those are awesome.

the Jap ones also have rear seat head rests, I just got a Jap rear seat at the junk yard. One of the first things to get pulled is the "passenger" seat... Because our Drivers seats get beat, and the RHD ones are MINT condition.

As these guys said, Mail use XJs. This company likely is involved with the importing. Here in the northern states you see alot of mail carriers with XJs.
