Default Building the Stock Bumpers

Has anyone built the stock bumpers on their rig? I like the look of mine since I cut them down and would like to keep them as a base to start from. Any suggestions on how to reinforce it?

If you're gonna go to all that trouble, just build new ones...

I may end up going this route the more I think about welding thicker plate steel to the bumper the more I realize its still gonna be weak. Whats the thickest metal that would be sensible to use?

I wouldn't even try that. Make something similar to the backbone if you want to keep the stock. I had an idea of building a stubby style bumper and recessing it enough where I could still access a winch and then using the stock on to cover it somehow but I threw that out the window once I actually started my build lol.

Yeah, I aborted that design. No real easy way to do it for minimum benefits. The design didn't strengthen the OEM bumper. It only gave you a place to mount a winch.
