I got lucky and found a good set a the PnP. It makes a world of difference having the hatch stay up on its own.

I have a cb antenna with a spring mounted on the bumper that I use to hold the hatch up. Works great!

I lucked out. Mine came with new struts already.

But in my Mustang (hatchback) there is a custom cut to length broom handle that works perfectly for holding up the hatch.

Had to update this....I installed the struts today...Couldn't be happier....I spent more time opening and closing the hatch to watch it go up by itself than I spent changing them....

Haha yeah it's clever like that. I changed my struts out this fall winter after 2 or 3 years of head bopping. And sure enough, the week after I changed them, the damn thing decided to lock up the latch mechanism so that I couldn't open it at all

I got new struts on mine too, isn't it awesome how it goes up on it's own?! Although the hatch hit me in the chin a few times, comes up FAST, still used to it not staying up at all...

It used to hit me in the head. Sometimes, especially when wearing a baseball cap, I would walk right into it - that really smarts and is very embarrassing.

I replaced the struts a month ago and today when I opened the tailgate (kind of obliviously, semi-distracted) it came up fast and got me right in the chin! It was a pretty good upper-cut too!
