Default Best tires for drifting

Which is better for drifting in your opinion:

Skinnier or wider?

I'm looking at getting some new tires and was just wondering which would be better for drifting? A skinnier tire which would put more pressure to the ground in a smaller area, or a wider tire that would spread out the pressure more over a larger area?

opinions thoughts?

I'm looking at going with one of the following options

33x10.5
33x12.5
31x10.5

I don't think i want to go as big as 35s but maybe what are your opinions?

Also should I go with an AT or a MT?

The jeep is only for off roading so I'm not worried about on road performance but I do mostly baja style driving so I'm not sure if a MT would be best.

wider mostly due to this fact. skinny tires= more easily flipped over.

I would go with 31" AT tires, you may not be able to break 33's loose on command, and if they grab traction, over you go. IMHO I wouldnt drift with my good tires on, I would try to find a pair of good used tires for the back just for fun.

It's not especially for drifting it's just that I do more of a baja style driving then muddin and rock crawling.

Then A/T tires are where its at for you. Just look at all the champ trucks and what they run.

wider in the rear and skinnier in the front, skinnier will cut the dirt and point you in the direction you are trying to go it.

guys hes not talking about drifitng pavement, he is refering to power sliding through dirt, faster to power slide then it is to slow down and corner...

a friend of mine gets take offs from corr trucks, theyre running 37-14.50-16.5s. a 33 will do fine in the dirt i can slide corners just fine in the dirt on 35s but 33s will be better for baja style because the bigger tire will be good for the bumps.

that will also aid the fronts in grabbing the soft stuff and ripping the wheel out of your hand

Id buy some treadwrights just for the sole fact theyre really cheap to replace if you blow a tire out.

A staggered set up actually sounds like a great idea but on my bmw i run a staggered setup and it actually makes it worse because i get a lot of understeer, because the front tires are getting less traction then the rear, but that is on pavement.

Would it be different on dirt? I don't want to be snowplowing every corner lol

id try different setups until you found one that did the best on dirt.

Back when i had my 94 xj the tires were all four the same size and were very bald and very wide and it drifted dirt better then the getto drift cars up here.

Haha I'm not looking to buy multiple setups just one. This car is just for up north off road adventures in the top half of the murder mitten.
