So, I'm in the process of patching up all of the rusty holes in the floor of my XJ, and there are some really big nasty ones.
After I'm finished, I would like to keep it rust-free for as long as possible.
I've seen a ton of threads where people used all different kinds of coatings to prevent further rust. I've googled, and found that everyone seems to have differing results with everything. Some people say certain products are great, and others say they're crap.
Whatever I do needs to be able to stick to some surface rust, and OEM paint, as well as bare metal. I'm looking for something that's the best combination of cheap, easy, and good as possible. It doesn't have to look fantastic because I'll be putting carpet and interior back in when I'm done.
So, what should I use? The obvious answer was POR15, but I've heard that the surface prep is critical and difficult, and I really don't want to buy all of the expensive prep product to make it stick.
Is roll-on bedliner a better option than POR15? Herculiner? Walmart brand? What about Rust Bullet? Their website makes them sound better, easier, and cheaper than POR15. What about plain old undercoat in a can?
I'm interested to hear what you've done, and what your experiences were with durability and ease of use.

Rust reformer on the rust, the rubberized undercoating on top. The undercoating says remove all rust or apply to a primed surface. So I use the rust reformer first. Youll never get the rust gone. lol. May as well kill it.

My napa carries a product called POR15 its some heavy duty stuff its not texted but its a rust prevnted and reverser. it has amazing spread I would say a quart would do the whole underside and still have some left over. but it is a bit pricey about 40bucks for the qt size ill find a link to post

yea use the primer that you can spray over rust, just sand all the loose rust off first and make it smooth, doesnt need to be 100 percent rust free. im not sure about how to applie the bedliner stuff though, if its right after the primer or if you hav to wait and then sand the primer before spraying bedliner.
