Default Best Jeep Books

I have seen various Jeep books for sale. I was wondering what y'alls favorites where and what had the most info pertinent to the XJ? Also, since I am mechanically inclined, even if not completely exerienced, could I just get a Haynes manual or would I be better off getting the factory service manual?

for great build info. Haynes or Chiltons are good for routine maintenance type stuff.

Yep, that's the one by Eric, check out the "gojeep.com" site from google, good info. The Haynes is good for 80% of basics, (my jeep fights back when being disassembled), sites like this forum and internet searches will get you the full 110% of info the XJ thives on.

Yeah, I am pretty mechanically inclined, not afraid to do most anything myself as long as it wont take to much longer, just lookin for some handy info to keep on hand for when I cant get on here to ask the professionals Gettin paid Friday, so wanted to pick some stuff up and hoping to get an XJ this weekend finally if my bonus comes through in time. Little off topic, but I am in need of tools and planned on getting a 283 piece Craftsman set, can you guys think of anything not in there that would come in handy on a fairly regular basis that I should pick up right away?

Craftsman at Sears Extraction Sockets, way more effective than easy outs, full set about $40. These are great. Look like sockets with internal helical biting edges. They will grab onto stripped fasterners. Well worth the investment.
