In a perfect world your statement is true. But depending on the type of coax used, length of coax, power supply, location of antenna and ground plane no two antennas will give you the same results with swr.

Once again, what your saying has been tested... And disproven. The length of coax doesn't matter. The other ones I will give you but depending in the weather the swr will change. I presented what I know, and take it or leave it. This stuff has been brought up so many times, all we are doing is beating a dead horse. Agree to disagree. To each their own.

Sorry if I'm bringing up old posts but how well does the Cobra 75 work? I like the whole idea of it.

no, I, or anyone else that I read posts from never said anything about not getting an swr. I was simply asking how it was incorporated.

YES you should have an swr to tune your antenna.

do not coil or wrap the excess cable. you should always use 18 feet of cable for best results and take the excess and randomly bunch it up somewhere. this is what my icensed fcc cb pro told me.

bottom line, find a local cb shop and they will tell you exactly what you need and give them your price range. they usually tune it for free.
p.s. my radioshack has some good cb people who can modify your radio to get more too. maybe yours has similar people.

That's not what my cb tech told me nor the research I've done...but whatever works best I guess

Try these guys: http://www.radioactiveradios.com/ I had a general lee converted to cb band that was "superwackpacked" with the super RX, three way close talk switch, and had the lights dimmed (they are way bright stock). It wasn't cheap, but it would reach out and touch someone.

I'm more or less looking to be able to talk to someone when I'm driving on the highway and bored.

Edit: Looked at the site but can't find prices anywhere? Looks like a good radio.

You have to call. You'll most likely end up talking to the owner. He definitly knows what he's talking about. You can tell him what it is you are wanting to do with your radio and he'll give you some ideas of brands/models that he'd recomend along with some options you may want to consider. You can get anything from stock to insane. They aren't the cheapest place around but, they definitly put up the performance to back the price and as long as you don't break the seals on the radio they back up their work. I was very happy with mine and only got rid of it because I quit driving truck and didn't really have a use for it anymore.

Ok I finally got around to further troubleshoot my out of no where high swr. Continuity on coax, stud, spring abs ground all tested good but I replaced them all anyway. Upgraded to a heavy duty stud and 12' clear coated mini-8 coax. Out of curiosity I tested my wilson antenna and it had no continuity!!! So last night I picked up a 4' Firestick II 3/8 wave. Tubed it this morning getting an average 1.2:1 swr across all channels. I wish I would have tested this sooner.

I'm thinking my gf forgot to take the antenna down when parking in the garage cuz there is nothing I could see me doing that would break it. Oh well though I'm happy its all figured out and got some good upgraded parts.
