ceiling mount is the best. great audio clarity and out of the way. also i put a retractable mic holder on my over head light so it stays up and out of the way until i need it then i let it go and it goes home.

also check out the cobra 75... at under $100 its easy to set up works great and is super small being that you can hide the "brain" and all the controls are in the mic handle. only downside is no PA plug in. but has an external speaxer plug.

The best antenna set up, realistically, is a 102" stainless steel whip plus a 6" spring. This brings the total antenna to 108" which is 1/4 of a CB wave. Then, you don't need an tuning.

not to thread jack, but i have the midland 1001z with a 108" whip and i was wondering... (because as most ppl tht own a cb i PROBALLY dont have it set up correctly) i have my cb mounted on my ceiling and my coax runs up through the headboard and into the rear quarterpanel.. but i had more cable than i needed, so i have it coiled up at the moment. what should i do with this? also, should i invest in a swr meter and tune my whip?
again, not tryiin to thread jack but seein all the cb-savvy useres talkin on this thread, i figured id ask

I run the Cobra 29 WX NW ST ... runs great ... with a Cobra Roadgear Mic works great... however on the Trails, the downside is I pick up stuff noone else gets and I'm generally louder than everyone else lol

Only problem with VHF is that you, and everyone that ever plans on wheeling with you, would have to get a license.
Yes, amps are illegal, but the FCC has pretty much disowned the CB band and only takes action after a number of complaints (EX: someone in a crowded area running 1000w+ and screwing with peoples TVs and other appliances).
