Cobra 19 is a good radio, if he's giving it away and it works then take it lol. But if you want something bigger then go for the cobra29. Its all in what you want to do with it.

i hate yelling out my windows at my buddies or constantly calling them.
I just want something cheap that works pretty much
If you can get the 19 for free then take it. From the factory it's going to put out the same amount of power as any other standard cb and when you are just talking to the rig right in front of you range isn't that big an issue. Besides there's not a lot of room in an xj and a compact radio will be easier to mount. Also ol'dixiejeep brought up a good point. You want to use a full 18' section of coax and stuff the excess (don't coil it).

x2 if your just using it for trail riding then that cobra 19 will be fine , isnce your saving money on a radio you can buy a decent antenna , like everyone else has said firesticks will be the way to go if your looking for a cheap setup , my wilson 1000 is a fender mounted unit and is great but it wasnt that cheap
