Default Best $1600 I've spent

I picked this up last Friday for $1600. It was filthy dirty inside and out. So after a weekend of scrubbing wiping and pressure washing here it is. Its a great start. 1987 with 175k mi. New 35's, ford 8.8, 4.0, aw4 auto, RC 3". Only has 3.55 gears so 4.88's and upgraded steering will be first on the list.

Question is what after that?

Also I have only ever seen this paint scheme on a wagoneer, anybody ever seen a Cherokee set up like this?[IMG][/IMG]

Run good? I think that was a steal!

A trail-ready Jeep for that price is great. The tires alone probably cost half or more of that.

Runs pretty good. NSS is intermittent but I'll fix that up. Its pretty gutless with the 3.55 gears.

Looks like you got a good deal there. Next step, lockers, more recovery equipment. I would have paid $1600 for that without a question.

As stated above, Rust?

Would you mind expanding on the more recovery equipment. I see a winch and D-rings on the front and what looks like a class 3 hitch in the back. Sure an aftermarket/purpose built bumper with D-rings would be nice on the back, but it is my understanding that the hitch is more than good enough.

Please don't miss understand I am not calling you out, it is a serious question. I am fairly new to offroading and just trying to learn.

Straps, ****** blocks, high-lift, etc. always go prepared. We usually have a couple tow straps (no chains or hooks) when we go. You can never have too much.

The XJ looks like it's already setup pretty good, doesn't appear that you need to do a whole lot more to it. Running 35's frame stiffeners & steering would probably be next big dollar items to add. If you're going to regear it, if you've got the funds I'd say do lockers too. You're already halfway there. D30 will need a new carrier anyways, 8.8 might already have the LSD depending what year/model it came out of.
