If you find HP D60s for less than 5-600 bucks let me know. They sell for a grand and up all day long. The 78-79 version goes for up to 1500 for one that needs rebuilt. T-cases are usually pretty cheap. I've sold several 231s and 242s for 50-100 bucks. 14b rears are usually pretty cheap, around 150 or less. If you can find the CUCV versions they came with 4.56s and a detroit.

Good god, that's a pretty penny huh. Guess I'll have to sell my body or something

Tons aren't cheap. A grand for a front is average and then you get to buy new bearings, seals, gears, locker, shafts, brackets, etc. You get the picture. That's one of the reasons I'm still running my D44. I've broken several shafts and they are 4340s but I don't have the cash to build a D60. My D60 rear is now running 4340 35 spline shafts because the 30 spline ones couldn't hold my 38s. All this is on a tired stock 4L too.

I'll do some searching around tomorrow while up at the jy and see what I come across. Whenever I'm ready to swap i'll take my time and build em right. I was just under the impression that a 60/44 combo was good but I guess I'll look into a 14blt and 60. thanks for the help dude

You can make a 44/60 combo work but plan on spending some cash because none of the stock shafts and joints will hold a 39. Even chromos will be pushing it with the 44. I just carry spare shafts with me. The 60 held up for a couple of years but 25 year old shafts finally let go. They are cheaper but by the time you build a decent 44 you could have bought a 60. And FYI ford ton and 3/4 ton brakes, they are the same, suck. The mounts stretch and they rattle and the flat springs pop out. I tried all kinds of homefab rigging to keep them on and finally cut out some brackets, you can buy them and I'd recommend it, and now run Chevy calipers. Plus they clear a 15" wheel with a tiny bit of grinding or less backspacing.

Well 39 was my highest. Think I'd be fine with a 14blt/44 front with 37's possibly? I know I'd have more luck finding that combo

With 37s you could make a 44/9 combo work and have a ton more ground clearance. The 44 will still be the weak link but there is a pretty big weight difference in a 37 and 39. Still plan on using some good shafts in the 44. You could also use a waggy 44 front and Rodeo/Pilot 44 rear (it comes with disc and is the same 6 lug pattern). You'll see plenty of 14b/44 combos for sale but they are out of 3/4 ton Chevys and the 44 is passenger drop and would cost a lot more to swap in than would be worthwhile.
