Default Average Milage 4.0 HO 1994 Cherokee

So I have noticed in the more recent months that my 1994 XJ with 94,000 org. miles, that the milage is pretty bad. I am getting about 12 in town and about 19 on the high way. I have and 18 gal tank and by the time it is empty now it is about a 260 miles per take average... I have magnaflo exhaust and i have a for K&N Cold air intake and no lift so i feel it should be better!!! Is this the norm for most everyone or should i start looking for leaks?!?!?!? Tell me what you get....

I also have a 94. I've been getting 11 or 12 city since I mostly just drive to school and work. Just replaced the O2 sensor which was fried. Hoping it gets better. Mine is stock by the way.

OPs mileage seems normal.
Seems like most people get 260mi/tank.
Town mileage seems kinda low though.
Generally I get about 15.5mpg per tank with just in town driving, top speed 55.

Well i guess then I just have to try to keep my foot out if the floor.... Even though it sounds soo good to push it lol! Thanks for the feed back... I think I am going to get new fuel injectors to see what it helps. Apparently it increases throttle response and mileage so we'll see if that helps at all...

I get about 220 when the low fuel light comes on.Only had jeep a few months and done a lot of upgrades-fixes.
The original owner said 17 mpg combined was the best when it was new."Rides like a jeep, sucks like a suburban."
703s probley the best improvement to overall performance for 25$.But dont expect any MPG improvement.
I really like new exhaust, like you said its hard to stay outa the skinny pedal!

I used to get 14.8, now I get 15.8 after my CAI.... 100% around town 35-50 mph speed limit. Best mpg investment for $50....

I used to not go over 2500, now I'm letting it see 3k+ often and not seeing much of a mpg change.

I have a 95 200k with
Accel wires ,cap, pick up coil, e3 plugs, and rotor button, all dielectric greased ( stops arching)
Rotella 5w-40 , synth diff oil front and rear (oil weights can cause
.5-1mpg difference )
99+ intake
703 injectors
New fuel pressure regulator ( can cause low pressure causing higher mpg due to more fuel needed to attain same power or too high causing it to flow more fuel, only applies to higher flowing injectors)
Full exhaust stock cat and glass packs
5 speed
30's bfg a/t
I get about 19-20 highway
And no idea city , I mostly am doing 55-70 during most my driving I get on a good day easily 350-90 a tank, that's when im NOT driving like a bat out of hell haha..that intake and exhaust opens her up

I would be pleased with 17mpg avg.Done most upgrades you have minus 5-speed and 99+ intake. What FP regulator did you install?Do you have 30 gal. tank? Thanks.

I have an oem fpr, I don't think the money for an adjustable one is worth it haha, but ill prob get one sooner or later, I think the manual really helps in mpg but I would imagine you to be closer than 17mpg and Nope 20gal tank I don't think any xj came with anything but a 20gal tank

Wrong, my XJ will only hold 14 gallons when it is bone dry. I have seen 13.5, 16, and the 20 gallon tanks.

Also, I don't know why people get such bad gas mileage with the XJ. I have 2.5" (thought it was 3", but not quite), 4.0l, AX-15 trans, 3.55:1 gears, and run Michelin 235/75R15 LTX MS2 tires -- soon to have 245/75R16 Goodyear Duratracs -- and I get fantastic gas mileage. I have tested the MPG many times using a GPS and I never get worse than 22mpg with a mix of town & highway, and have seen a best of 30.16mpg (3.05 gallons) for a 92-mile trip.

I average around 27mpg on a good level highway, while maintaining 65mph. It really loves running at 2100-2300RPMs. When I am in town, I rarely come out of 3rd gear, since it loves running near the peak of it's TQ band for maximum MPG. Oh, I also have the Neon injectors, have bored out the throttle body, I have also opened up the air-box and added a cold-air intake. I think that I have just hit on a good combination.

People may think that I am crazy concerning these MPG figures, but I am an engineer so I know how to run tests and experiments with proper controls. I am amazed, too, trust me. I have ran these tests over and over again, and they keep coming back pretty close to the previous figures. It amazes me every time I drive to Salt Lake City, Utah (240 miles away) and I have just under 1/2 a tank when I get there (again, only 14 gallon capacity).
