Keep looking at the higher trim levels of the WJ 99-04 you should be able to find an amp or higher end head unit the amp is under the rear passenger seat and your wiring harness should be there also.

Another place to look is here on the items for sale.

You're going to need the amp, the harness should be under the carpet on the right-hand side of the rear seat (not sure if Jeep pre-wired the harness for an amp installation, as I haven't checked my Jeep... I know they didn't put in the front passenger power seat wiring harness when equipped with a manual front passenger seat like my Jeep is, so doubt they even installed the harness... you'll probably need to find one). Not sure if you're going to have to rewire the speakers to connect to the amp or not. I mean, you could use the Infinity speakers WITHOUT the amp, but you're right, they'll sound HORRIBLE.

I have the stock 6-speaker sound system in my Jeep and have replaced the front speakers with aftermarket ones. You could just replace all of your stock speakers with aftermarket ones and get the same improved sound quality while keeping the stock radio without having to hook up the amp or rewire anything. Just a though.

One thing to keep in mind is that the speakers in the doors sit really, really close to the plastic grills in the door panels... not every aftermarket speaker will drop right in. I used a set of Alpine SPE-6090 6x9"'s for the front doors, which Sonic Electronix told me would fit ($89.99 Best Buy purchase, plus the cost of the wiring harnesses that snap right into the factory wiring harnesses, and then have butt connectors for the speaker terminals on the aftermarket speakers), or else use adapter plates to make a pair of 6X 1/2" (6.5") or 6X 3/4" (6.75") aftermarket speakers fit into the factory 6X9" openings (pretty much any aftermarket speaker of this size should drop right in). Crutchfield recommends 5X 1/4"'s (5.25") to replace the 6X 3/4" rear speakers (6.75")... those will ALSO fit with an adapter plate, and you'll only have to re-drill the stock speaker screw holes, which is NOT a big deal if you use self-tapping screws.

The dash tweeters are 2.75" and there aren't a lot of aftermarket 2.75" "drop-in" replacements, so you'll have to fabricate a mounting bracket that allows smaller tweeters to fit under the stock grills and adapt to the stock tweeter screw holes, and you'll have to cut off the factory wiring harnesses and splice your stock speaker wiring into your new tweeters, as they don't make a wiring adapter for the dash tweeters (you could splice butt connectors onto the stock tweeter wiring to make a snug fit onto your aftermarket tweeters, however). Alternatively, you could disconnect and remove the stock dash tweeters altogether and mount the tweeters in the front doors.

Good luck with your project, and let us know what you end up doing!

Honestly i would go aftermarket for audio stuff,Some of the oem stuff is nice but with the age of the wj whos to say anything you take used is gonna work,How long will it work or even if it works right.
