The mounting bracket weld to the front looks pretty sketchy. You get what you pay for though.

Look into companies like JCR Offroad, Staangs Fab, Iron Rock Offroad, ARB(although not worth it, but if you like the style to each their own), and others.

All of which listed above have proper mounting brackets that aren't just surface welded.

looks like they used JCR's bracket to make their bumper. get the real thing or make your own.

I agree. I wouldn't trust that to hold up to much abuse.

The bumper you're looking at on e-bay is a Nates 4x4 bumper. I have one that has the pipe on top as well and it only cost me about 280 shipped direct from them. They run sales on a regular basis. Nates4x4.com. I'm satisfied with their product although I have yet to hit a deer or guardrail with it. It comes in bare metal, so you'll have to hand it from the garage door rails with some string and spray that sucker, but it's nice. Comes with all the hardware, all the hole matched up. The only issue I had, the bolts broke off in my steering box when I went to remove them. (I live in Michigan) You have to remove them to put the bumper on. Although, pretty much every other bolt has broken on my baby, so it's expected.

All in all, for the price, I don't think it can be beat. Looks good, reasonably stout, didn't drag down the front end or screw my gas mileage.

Good-luck. In a month or two I'll have some picts up.

I have to disagree with this. to a point. I would add some gussets. the ultimate in strength is to mount all the way through. that is true

I run face welded mounting brackets. I have abused my bumper-slammed it off rock water falls, recovered full size pick ups, had it slammed into the side of rocks yada yada yada. point is i use and abuse mine.

I do have the recover point welded all the way thru the bumper (the hitch) but the mounts are just surface welded with gussets (granted his does not have gussets)

the thing that really worries me is the thickness of the steel.....

for that price, throw in like 50 bucks more and you have a solid JCR bumper. their quality is top notch. my buddies just came and we installed it, and let me say that thing looks like it can take a beating.
