Default Anyone paint their muffler?

I put on a replacement muffler and pipe from NAPA last summer and the thing looks wicked bad already (along with my original cat, which will probably have to be replaced). Im wondering if anyone has painted theirs to help slow down the rot, and if so what did you use and how well did it work/last?

Sounds like that would be the best bet. Let us know how it goes...

My muffler is SS, and I didn't paint the tailpipe....thought about it AFTER I had it clamped in place. I did cut the turndown off and replaced it with an 18" straight pipe that I DID paint with high temp paint. It looks better than galvanized steel.

I painted my tailpipe with header paint. Came out pretty good, but i didn't clean the rust off well enough so it came back through. Still looks better than it did though. If you paint it expect it to smell for a little while, that got me wondering till i figured it out.

Im thinking I might just get some black header paint and do it to it. Gotta be better than rusting out in 2 years, which is where it looks like its headed.

I just replaced the original tailpipe on my '96! The original muffler was replaced 2 years ago because the inspection mechanic said it was rusted out, but the replacement he put on was LOUDER than the rusted original.

The replacement muffler crapped a baffle and was rattling inside, so I opted to go with a Magnaflow SS all welded muffler. When I pulled the tailpipe I decided to replace it as well since I had to cut it off.

My '86 F150 took a tailpipe every other year, or so it seemed, and a muffler for every other tailpipe. My '98 F150 has the original muffler, tailpipe and BATTERY!

I always paint my muffler, tremclad high heat, flat black, can and a brush, get lots into the seams, let it dry. Have also used stove paint in the past. Both work. On the XJ I've got 200,000 km and 3 years on the current since installed, and we get salt in the winter. Had whole system off recently, repainted all. Muff is getting soft, failing from the inside out. Will probably be a mid winter fail. Always use the premium muffler with life warranty. Yes I still have the receipt and carquest will see me sometime in Feb / March. So go ahead and paint it.
