My wife is complaining that she doesn't get to drive the Jeep enough so I'm starting to look for YJ's (something about those square headlights dontchaknow?). Having owned 2 CJ's before I got my Cherokee I know Jeeps are pretty much Jeeps at least as far as the 4.0 I6, but I was wondering if any of you have owned YJ's and what your experience was. Anything other than rust I need to look out for?

I drove my moms 88 when I first got my license for about six months. I would stick to a 4.0. At least for me, the 4.2 seemed to leave something to be desired. That being said, of you ever need to drop the oil pan its much easier than an XJ. Just be ready for her to complain about the ride next!

avoid the older yjs, If I ever get another one I'm looking for 92 - 95
vacuum discajunk is stupid and you shouldnt have to mod junk just to make it sort of function when there are better options available. I had an 87, the carbed motors suck too lol. I'd say avoid both.

Been through 2 yj's and fixed them up and had them in great shape for the wife then she decided she did not like it anymore for some reason or another. (women). so ended up with the 98 tj and she likes it much better for comfort and such. So i guess be careful what you start could get interesting and expensive. Or maybe i am the only lucky one with an expensive wife. Lol.

I had a 90 yj, it wheeled good on 31's but needed bigger tires and allot of work before I would have done any hard core wheeling with it. Very pricey to put much lift in one due to the need for slip yoke and shafts, lift, tires, replace rear end, gears ect. I like my xj much better and less I find a screaming deal will not go back to a wrangler less it's a rubicon tj.

Yeah ya do but it had AC and can carry my entire family. And ya don't have to do it just to go to 32" tires, I just like the ride and the room better than my yj. That and the fact thT I can pull a boat if I had to. Also like the fact that I have an auto trans now, tho that could have been a swap for my yj, better suspension, the list goes on. Inputting I miss is the top and doors off for the summer
