Default Any specific issues on '02, 4.7 Grand Cherokee...

I should know about before buying? I just found what looks to be a very clean 2002 Grand Cherokee 4.7, 4 WD, asking $5,200. Any specific issues with this year I should be aware of? It has 122,000 miles.

Thanks boys!

Well boys, I want to check this '02 out. I'll let y'all know how it seems, but I've never had any kind of Jeep before. I do have a fantastic '93 Dakota 3.9 V6 that has been absolutely the best vehicle I've ever owned in me long life!

Ok, well, I plan to try to drive'er this afternoon. It's over an hour from me, but we go shopping in Tupelo often anyway, so I call man to see it. Reckon these '02 4.7s are bullet proof, eh?

Heheheheeee, oh me, sorry Tsaani. Man, I don't know much. I know absolutely NOTHING about 4x4s, Jeeps, etc. I'll try to find where to ask me question.

Thanks for letting me know this much!

Have a mechanic look it over and do a compression test on the engine. If they are taken care of they are good jeeps,If its been abused it can blow headgaskets,Break the timing chain and few small electrical issues like power windows not working and blend doors not working.

I worked for Chrysler. If it has a 4.7 run period. H.o. were a bit better but still not a vary reliable engine.

I have an 04 GC "Overland" with the 4.7HO it now has 202,000 mi. and runs great as well as all interior electronics working fine. I would have no issues with driving it coast to coast any day.

But do take it to someone and pay to have it checked out before buying anything not just it.

Here is a photo of both my Jeeps

^This, and if I was buying a 4.7L V8 I would want maintenance records. The 4.7L V8 has a laundry list of issues a mile long (Including oil sludge, oil foam, cracked blocks and heads, sudden loss of oil pressure, timing system issues, etc.), but most are caused by or exacerbated by lack of/poor maintenance (like 0331 heads failure can even occur on well maintained vehicles, but is much more likely on poorly maintained ones). The 4.7L V8 is a very "sensitive" engine and does not handle lack of/poor maintenance well.

I will say for all the 4.7 head jobs I have preformed only one was a high out put.
As for good maintenance it definitely help. As previously stated 4.7 very sensitive.

Thanks a lot boys! I've about decided to hold out to see if I can find one of the inline sixes without 400,000 miles on'er! hehehehehehe, those things must be the ticket. I've seen quite a few for sale with 200,000 miles and more. My kind of engine.
