Is there any benefits to removing the factory bend in the exhaust system.

Yep there's definitely a benefit. Less restriction. Better flow. Increased power

He's talking about the factory dent in the downpipe

Not enough benifit to justify the work to do it.

Not to mention your drive shaft would dent it again.

Do aftermarket down pipes have that dent?

They shouldnt.

But the OEM dent is pretty significant. From what I've heard, removing it makes a noticeable difference. I definitely plan on it at some point

Hmm, found this on cherokeetalk:

http://www.cherokeetalk.com/forum/f8...pe-dent-14425/

cruiser54 @ jeepforum gave me some insight that is the only one that makes sence to me so far and I will be contacting JP mag to give them the info and bagger them.

Quote: Absolutely factory. Was there when we did the Pre-delivery Inspections at the dealership. It's not there for clearance either. It's disguised to be there for clearance but was added to the pipes in order to heat up the catalytic converter sooner to please the EPA.

If you are standard height, it will hit in some off-road conditions. With a 2 to 3" lift, you'll be fine. The factory could have put a sweep in that pipe, had no crush, and had tons of clearance but they didn't for the reasons stated in my previous post. I have a local muffler shop make me a downpipe with two 45s in it instead of the 90 like stock.

My XJ and about 30 other buddies have the same dent. I've never seen an XJ without the dent, even ones that have never been flexed and bone stock.

Report back if you decide to remove it. I'm curious if the gains will be noticeable.

Can't have a straight pipe when the tubing isn't straight makeznosensebro.

Guess I'll be fixing it up too.
