wow at 102" Your talkin CB antenna here right? Sorry, Never done the cord splice. Is there a truck stop in the area with CB shop? I usually get my CB gear at large truck stop shop at London, Ontario. Perhaps that type of location could help you with the cable splice. As for the mount plates, I'd go with larger plate at inside surface to spead the load. I mounted a shorter antenna with a spring for flex on the rear door, 4 fender washers on the bolts to spread the bracket load across a broader area of the fiberglass, also looked for an area where the glass was thick. As the wiper motor was pooched, that became the location and the cable passed thru the original hole. Do you have any pics of the equipment givin you problems. Can you google the manufactures name to see if there is some helpful info on their website?

102" whip, are you trying to stay in constant contact with beings on Mars? It's your rig so I respect you doing what you want, but damn, all that things going to do is get in the way on the trail.
