Talking Anchor Winch Point. Literally.

I have this anchor, its about 2'x3' and the thinnest diameter metal on it is at least 1/4" thick to a max of 3/4" ish. Would the metal itself be able to withstand a 20000# load? I tried looking up the tensile strength of steel/iron but I get a millon answers that have nothing to do with what I want to know. Im curious because there are not always winch points available and I want to bury this thing in the mud/snow and see what happens but I want to know ahead of time if Im going to survive or not? Any reasonable info would be great! Thanks

LMAO its actually a semi common concept, Im just trying a different route than burrying a tire. Im good with the concept, Im just worried about the braking strength of the metal.

If you could figure out what type of steel it is, then you could search for a stress/strain curve and figure out the breaking point. But, its not the breaking point I'd be worried about, its that thing letting loose from the ground and flying back at ya

All I can think of is...
Are there no trees where you come from?
Do you wheel in the ocean?
I typically toss a strap around a tree and anchor to the strap. I've never considered dropping anchor and yanking.

Maybe I'm not grasping this idea well enough...

Its a saltwater anchor and very well galvinized, I tried finding markings on it but no luck. An anchor is designed to dig in, kinda like a barb on a fish hook so Im game. Plus I plan on being a loooong ways away! Ill try your search next thanks.

On another note, Im suprised this hasnt been bumped to chat.

I would assume its cast so even if you figure out what type of steel or iron it is and are able to find its breaking point, its still not going to be as strong as the graph will show. Casting is never as strong as cold rolled or heat treated.

Also, sense its galvanized, its going to contain zinc or chromium. Hope that narrows down your search.
