I have seen a picture of someone who mounted it right where the spare goes. I'm not sure how well it worked, but it looked pretty decent. How anout underneath the front passenger seat? that has a little bit more room too

Mount it
Considered the seat back for things like amp, jack, axe, shovel, but would be somewhat problematic when folding the seat down. So the stuff packs across and the amp is on the speaker box. Box is up for carring a load and layed down when load is out. Just give yourself enough cable.

its just a sub box a few holes wont kill it and its worth your time to drill 4 holes for the amp
mine is under the back seat and i honestly never thought of someone sitting there and hitting it but i guess you could always make them sit on the other side or in the middle if you have to
if you really wanted to i bet you could fab something to have it on the roof even under the headliner or something somehow!
be creative and think about it and youl figure it out man

EDIT: sorry for waking a dead thread, but i thought this was a more recent one I was looking at.
its very easy to mount it where the spare goes.
I got a 5 channel amp, that has a pretty good size, and I'm very happy with how it fits.
i ran all my wiring through the bottom trim pieces, and drilled holes for the wires to come out. only problem I've ran into is the bolt I used on the top right of the amp needs to be cut shorter so the trim piece can go all the way flush to the window.
the metal that mounts the spare tire needs to be removed which is just 3 bolts. and that will come right out.
