Default Air intake Question

I have a question for the guys who take their cherokees through water and mud bogs. Do you guys run the cone style filters where the air box would have been or do you guys build some kind of custom intake system?

Last time I took mine through water it soaked my filter cone, but I got lucky and no damage was done. I would recommend a home made snorkel or buy a snorkel if your going to be going through water.

Well i dont mean like alot of water but usually when i go to mud bogs there is soupy mud and such and it would seem to me that it would get sucked up and cause severe engine damage.

Well I would go with a snorkel then if any water is going to be going over your hood.

There was a thread on here, About a guy that mounted his CAI up under the cowl in front of the windshield. Relatively cheap. Look better than a snorkel.

But fairly limited as hoods/front ends tend to get covered in mud. How many pics have you seen with the nose completely covered, including the wind shield?

I have a custom intake with a cone filter, I have a thing were i wont go through any water thats taller then my rocker panels (altho i have done a few water crossings taller then that pretty scary) my rig is stock height right now so i guess that isnt really deap, but i feel aslong as you dont stop moving then it wouldnt really get too wet.

It gets good airflow. The air flows through fast enough to the point that it doesn't warm up. I used exhaust tubing that goes all they way until the firewall. I have since painted it all with high anti heat spray paint and it seems to be working. Temps are either the same or lower.

The last time I went offroading i was doing some small mud pits and got water in my air box, no damage but I had enough of getting water in my air box. So I made custom cowl snorkel, kinda the same like another member did and so far it is working good. Check this link out I did the same as this guy

I didn't take any pics of the inside, but it is smug in there. If I were to do it again I would cut the hole farther to the pass. side to allow alittle more room. Yes, I used a hole saw and a dremel.
