Default Advice! Should I buy this Cherokee!

Hey guys!
I'm a (potential) first time buyer of this very attractive 2001 Jeep Cherokee.

http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Jeep/Cher...howcpo=ShowCPO

150,000km on the dial, Rubicon Express lift kit, new rims, new wheels . . . I took it out for a spin this afternoon and it drove fine and sounded great.

But XJs are new to me. I was hoping for some insight on what I should be asking and looking for specifically on a new used Cherokee. I asked the usual questions (accident and previous owner history, repair history, etc.) but there's not a lot to go on. The dealer just kept saying that the truck was good . Maybe he's right!

BUT! Help!
1. What should I be asking the dealer when I go back on Saturday?
2. What should I be looking for?

Thanks for all your help and if you'd like to know anything more, maybe I can help.

But in all seriousness, check oil level, tranny level, tranny fluid color, make sure 4wd engages fine and drives fine in 4wd if you can drive on the parking lot a little bit. The heads on those are prone to cracking.

test his knowledge of the previous owner, I for one always ask where is this originally from?
How many previous owners, 1,2,3 the more previous owners the higher the chance that it was a problem child.....

Here in NJ, we were seeing a huge increase in the number of "low mileage" one owner vehicles for sale, that were actually shipped up here from the south shortly after hurrican Katrina.....and you guessed it...they were flood victims and were breaking down all over the place

look at the rocker panels, and the rear quarter guards for rust as well as the floor board those are the most known spots on an xj to rust, i see it has front tow hooks does it come with any factory skids? find out if the rear is aal or full leafs. imo you can get a much more equipped xj for alot less, this one does look clean but for 7k thats alot i wanted 7000-7500 for mine before i decided to keep it and mine is built with long arms locked front and rear with 4.56 gearing and lots of other custom work done. imo your over paying but to each his own.

Also, seems kinda pricey. I wouldn't pay more than 3700 for it myself. The lift doesn't look that big. What does the lift itself consist of. BRAND NEW RIMS AND TIRES IN AMAZINGGG CONNNNDTION HURRY- WINTERS -A -COMIN!4X4 SEASON WOOOHOOOO!!

Awesome, thanks for the replys guys. Yeah, the price is way too high. But I think I can deal with the guy. I was planning on offering $5000, see what the dealer (who 100% lives up to every bad user car stereotype there is -- bad leather jacket, greasy hair, fast, loud talk, a sneaking suspicion he's not levelling with me) comes back at me with.

There's one previous owner on it.

I'll ask about the head . . . How prone are they to cracking? What's the driver behaviour that leads to that happening?

Thanks clayton3854 for the rust info. I'll look at those spots. I'll ask about the lift info as right now, I have no specifications on it.

Thanks again guys!

It's a great buy, but the price could come down to the $4500 range.

There's a rip in the leather seat. I'm not sure if it's really heated leather or not because I have a limited Jeep Cherokee too and mine aren't heated that I know of.

Nice and clean and all the bells and whistles. It should go to someone that will take care of it. Not something I would want to drag out onto the punishing trails; I'd save that for an already beat-up Jeep.

I'd buy it; just not for that price. I would definitely look into the cylinder head for that year too.

If they're a legit dealer then that thing must be rust free and ready to go
Some 01's had head issues yeah. But if you don't ever plan on building your own and the suspension looks solid, that's probably a decent buy for $6000
But it's certainly something I'd never be interested in for myself. Too much $$$ for an xj

Just ask for the carfax! haha

I would try to talk them down. Sure it is a nice looking jeep but that is quite a bit of money.
