Advice on purchase
Hi all ! I am a newbie and need some advice. I used to own a 95 Cherokee and sold it, now I wish I hadn't. Will be looking for another soon and wanted to get input on what to look out for. I do know I want a 4.0 and wife wants auto trans. Most likely will be looking for Grand Cherokee. Will be used mostly on road with occasional wheeling trips. It won't be put through too much torture , lol!! Just want to know strengths and weaknesses. Thanks! Oh, almost forgot, I am looking in the 1995 -2000 model range.

Man, if you're going for a Grand Cherokee, you should really consider the V8. As great as the 4.0 is, it isn't remarkably more efficient in the GC than the V8. Also,in the ZJ, you get the better transmission with the 5.2 compared to the 4.0 which seems to be that vehicle's greatest downfall.
Look at some 96 - 98 5.2 V8 Limiteds or, if you can deal with old age, a 93 4.0 as some of those did offer the AW4 automatic.

let me rephrase that the 99 -01 inline 6 4.0 had problems. With the extra weight of a grand get a v8 one you will be happier. If you can find a 98 limited in your budget in good shape get it.That one was one year only and got the 5.9 and was the fastest suv of its time.
