advice for possible purchase.
hey guys hows it goin. I've been looking into cherokees for my first vehicle. i love wranglers but can't afford one plus i think the cherokee would offer more usable space. i was wondering if it would make a good daily driver and something i could take off road every now and again. also how reliable are they and what kind of mpg can i expect out of it? i would appreciate any responses. thanks for reading and responding

These Jeeps are very reliable. Keep clean fluids in it. They're a lot of daily drivers that are great weekend warriors. Gas mileage will be in the mid teens. But depends what u do to your jeep.

Great for wheeling, great as a daily driver, very reliable, parts are cheap, huge aftermarket support, and fun to drive. Now for the cons. Kind of noisey, truck like ride may bother you, and you can expect about 16mpg on average for a stock XJ. IMO the best years for the older body style were 92-96, 97-99 for the newer body style.

The 84-86 model years should be avoided too. A junk 2.8 Chevy V6 with a junk carburator will not even be close to reliable.
