Adding vent windows to front doors
I have a 1996 XJ and it has the two piece front door glass with the vent window that doesn't open. I have manual windows. I was wondering if anyone here has ever tried swapping in the vent window setup from the earlier XJ's and how hard it was or if its even possible. I have lots of them to get parts off of, so finding the stuff isn't hard. Thanks for any advice I can get!

if you dont have problems with people breaking into cars where you are then go for it but around here your asking to get broken into with the wing window that open. Swap doors is easy. All previous years will fit on the 96 but not 2door to 4door or vise versa.

swapping vent windows isnt hard once you get thru the first one. pull off your inner door trim and take off the window seal on top of the door opening,i believe inner and outer, then there is a couple of screws on top of the door frame that runs down towards the fender, take them out. then follow the window track down into the door and there is a bolt there that needs to come out. might be 10 to 13 mm or torx like my book said, which was wrong. of course hav your window rolled down. then grab the glass and pull back and kinda work it out of there. i found 4 rust free doors with non-opening vents and ill probably swap them out with the ones on my old doors. i havnt found any rust free no vent window.97 and up, with manual windows yet. i only seen electric windows and it looks like a pain to switch those to manual. and i dont want electric ones anyways, the less electrical the better for wheelin.

Don't do it. The Vent windows are leaky, unrealiable and really the hassle isn't worth having them. I'm trying to do the exact opposite and swap in some non-vent windows in mine or find a pair of 2Door Doors in good condition that already have them. Yes the vent windows do suck that much.

I did that swap about a month ago and I will never go back to the closed windows. It took me about 30 mins to pull the windows for JY and 1-1.5 to do the swap on my 96 xj. I don't think you will regret it.
To remove window There are two torx bolts on your door fram right above the window. Peel door panel there is one bolt that holds the track inplace. the track is part of the vent window. Roll your window down and start wiggling your vent window till it comes out. I hope this helps.

I would like to do this too . I have an 88 Cherokee Limited but it only has a vent window on the drivers side. I didn't know they made one for the passengers side. what years did that do that ? I never even seen one at the Junk yard near me ether.

IMO the PO had switched out your window for some reason. If a vehicle has wing windows it has them on both sides. It took me about 5 months to find a jeep with them at the JY until one day I went there for something and found 2 jeeps with them. I grabbed a set as fast as possible, then I forgot what I went to the JY for in the first place

I just picked up a spare XJ for parts and it only has a vent window on the driver side. Passenger is non vent. And this is a one owner Jeep.

I just want to replace a front vent window (that never opened) because some jerk smashed it to break into my car.
Is there anywhere people know of in Vancouver BC to find this part relatively cheap?
Auto glass stored want almost $200 for this tiny piece of glass.
